HOLDING SOUTHPORT POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABLE
In 2007, the Maine Legislature passed a state budget that required all school budget proposals go out to a district-wide referendum vote. When the Southport Board of Selectmen and school committee broke the law and refused to put their school budget out to a vote, Maine Leads called upon the citizens of Southport to take action. Listen to the call we placed to every resident of Southport, Maine.

GIVING SENATOR BILL DIAMOND SOME SUPPORT
Last March, the Maine Legislature was negotiating a way to fill a nearly $200 million budget shortfall. Many Augusta politicians wanted to increase our tax burden by raising taxes to fill the hole. State Senator Bill Diamond (D-Windham) had been saying he was uncomfortable with raising taxes and might not support a tax increase when it came time to vote. Maine Leads asked the citizens of Sen. Diamond's district to call him and give him some support. Listen to the call we placed to every resident of Sen. Diamond's district.

SENATOR DIAMOND LET US DOWN
The first call Maine Leads placed to Sen. Diamond's district was a huge success. He received a stack of messages from his constituents telling him to hang tough and vote against a tax increase to fill the budget hole. Unfortunately, just a few weeks later, Sen. Diamond folded and voted for a $53 million tax increase on beer, wine, soda, flavored water and health insurance claims. The vote in the State Senate to pass the tax increase was 18-17. Listen to our second call to Sen. Diamond's constituents after he supported half a million dollars in new taxes.
